Backup Strategy for SQL Server
Effective backup and recovery is to protect the schema and the physical data stored within the database so that in the event of loss or damage both the data and database can be recreated.
The complexity and the cost of the backup strategy must be wighed up against the cost to the business of loss of data.
Point: " The only good backup is one that has been successfully restored "
There is always a possibility of data loss and therefore plans should be made for recovery.
Traditionally backups have been made upon magnetic tape media however for smaller databases, for instance those under 20 Gb, alternative media such as optical disk or dvd may prove more cost effective.
